The Prisoner is a drama miniseries airing on AMC. The miniseries is a remake of The Prisoner, a cult thriller created by Patrick McGoohan that aired 17 episodes between 1967 and 1968. The original series told the story of a spy who resigns his position and is subsequently kidnapped to a place known as "The Village" where he's stripped of his identity. The leader of the Village, "Number Two," designates him as "Number Six," and spends his time attempting to pry information about Six's past out of him.

Each episode in the miniseries is directly based off an episode from the original and follows the same general plot. McGoohan, who died in January 2009, was not involved in the remake and adamantly refused to take part in bringing it to air. It has been in production, in one form or another, since 2005.
