Overview

Volume 2 of The First Episodes was selected by the disc producers from the over 700 16mm kinescopes of the original Kukla, Fran and Ollie run in the Burr Tillstrom Collection held by the Chicago History Museum. While the first collection was assembled from Tillstrom's favorite episodes, Volume 2 is a more general overview of the original run, including one of the earliest kinescoped episodes and one of the few surviving episodes from the ABC years.

Lyle Conway, a one-time Tillstrom colleague who went on to work with the Jim Henson Creature Shop, was creative director for the release, which was given a "Kuklapolitan look" by using original vintage illustrations from the official Kuklapolitan illustrator Ted Drake.

As with the previous release, the main episodes are presented as originally broadcast, with the original commercials (where applicable) and music.

Easter Eggs

  • At the end of the Buelah Wiki section is a kinescope of a musical appearance by Kukla and Ollie in front of a live audience satirizing the television ratings system. Although the source isn't listed on the disc, Tillstrom's notes indicate this was probably from the Emmy Nominations Show of February 16, 1957.
