Agonized Labor is the eighth episode of the second season of Gilligan's Island, and the forty-fourth episode overall.

Plot Overview

While listening to the Radio one night,Gilligan,and the Skipper learn that Mr.Howell is broke.They wait until the next day to tell him.After some delays in telling him,Gilligan finally blurts out the bad news about Howells fortunes.The Howells especially Thurston is having a difficult time dealing with the news.Lovey is dealing fairly well with it.She assures Thurston that broke,or not they still have their friends.Thurston truly believes that the only reason people like him is because of his wealth.This he certain of when first Mary Ann gives him a boukay of Roses.The Roses had a Bee inside it which stings Thurston.The Professor repairs Howells Practice,Wooden Polo Pony.This Wooden Ponies Legs collapse after Howell climbs on it.The Skipper accidently spills some liquid on Howell,and Gilligan,and Ginger while fishing catches one,and just Howell is walking towards them,they both pull the fishing line too hard,and the caught fish hits Howell in the face.It knocks him down.He hears Gilligan,and Ginger laughing,thinking they are laughing at him.They are actually excited about the large fish that they had caught.Convinced that the others are showing their contempt for him,Howell decides to commit suicide.He writes,and leaves a note saying he is going to end it all.When Lovey reads the note she screams bringing the other Castaways to gather around her.When they learn of Howells suicide,they brake off into searching partys in hopes of finding him before it's too late.Gilligan finds him.He calls to the others.Howell is near the edge of a Cliff contemplating suicide,but is hesitant.Gilligan in an attempt to try to stop him falls over the Cliff himself,but managed to grab hold of something.The Skipper comes along,and all three men return to the clearing.The Skipper assures Howell it does'nt matter whether he is rich,or not that he will always have friends.Now the Howells have to decide what to do after they are rescued.The other Castaways are willing to help The Howell equip themselves to do manual labor after they are rescued,and return to Civilization.The Skipper shows Howell what type of work he will be doing(shoving coal) if he should get a job on a ship.Mary Ann,and Ginger will train Lovey in the field of stitching clothes,and acting.The attempts all fail.Then,the Howells will try Cooking,and serving meals.This also fail especially Mrs.Howell boiling Coconuts,and leaving the lid on the Pot.The results,Howell spilling soup,and wine everywhere including on the Castaways,and the lid from Lovey's lid exploding.Giving up on any attempts on manual work both Howells decide to end it all,leaving another note for the others to find.Again,near the same Cliff this time both Howells are about to jump when the other Castaways arrive just in time,to not only stop the Howells from killing themselves,but bring them some good news,with the Radio.They learn that it was not the Howells fortune which had been wiped out,but the Powells.Happy Ending.
