CBRT is a Canadian local station in Calgary, Alberta, owned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and affiliated with CBC Television. It broadcasts on analog channel 9, with a digital channel allocation of 49 (not yet on air).

[edit] History

CBRT signed on for the first time on September 1, 1975 at 6 p.m., taking the Calgary CBC affiliation from previous affiliate CFAC-TV, which thereafter became independent. Its initial branding alternated between CBC 9 (making CBRT one of the first TV stations in North America to use network-channel number branding) and CBC Calgary, then switched to using the station's call sign before returning to using CBC 9 in 1982. In line with other CBC-owned stations in Canada, CBRT has used the generic CBC Television network branding since 2002.

Local programs on CBRT include a local edition of CBC News at Six, anchored by Doug Dirks, and Living Calgary (hosted by Alex Ruiz), a local version of CBC's Living regional lifestyle shows. A production centre for CBC Newsworld is also located at the CBRT studios.
