[edit] Plot Overview

Cooper, a prominent attorney, collapses and dies in a phone booth during a frantic call to Burke. The Captain and his men pore over the dead man's cases and come up with five suspects: a once-prominent movie star who lost a paternity suit; the young actress who was the other party in the paternity case, whose career was ruined by the scandal; a news vendor whose father was sent to prison via Cooper's shoddy defense; a rich widow whose husbands met with suspicious demises; and a chemist convicted of industrial sabotage.

Kevin McCarthy, Dorothy Lamour and Terry-Thomas all shine in flashback sequences as their characters relate their side of the cases.

This episode contains some of Gene Barry's best work on the series, as he has chemistry with McCarthy, Lamour, Carolyn Jones and Jeanne Crain.
