Archie's TV Funnies was the fourth animated comedy series starring characters from the Archie comic series. It aired Saturdays on CBS.
In this edition, the Archie gang are at a TV control center where they bring popular newspaper comic strips to life via animation. The strips featured and their creators:
- Dick Tracy (Chester Gould; currently drawn by Dick Locher)
- The Captain & The Kids (Rudolph Dirks; currently drawn by Hy Eisman)
- Nancy (Ernie Bushmiller; currently drawn by Guy and Brad Gilchrist)
- Moon Mullins (Frank Willard; last drawn by Ferd Johnson, no longer being drawn)
- The Dropouts (Howard Post; no longer being drawn)
- Alley Oop (V.T. Hamlin; currently drawn by Jack and Carol Bender)
- Broom Hilda (Russell Myers)
- Smokey Stover (Bill Holman; no longer being drawn)
- Emmy Lou (Marty Links; no longer being drawn)
Voices of the comic strip stars include June Foray, John Irwin, Jayne Haime and Alan Oppenheimer.
A recurring storyline with the Archies in covering a story for their station was used in between the comics features. Several of these comic strips would be animated again in 1980 for Filmation's NBC show The Fabulous Funnies. Three features had been previously animated--Dick Tracy (UPA, 1961), Nancy (Terrytoons, 1942), and The Captain & The Kids (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1939). A two-episode pilot for Moon Mullins was produced by Cambria studios (makers of Clutch Cargo) but it never developed into a series.
